MLB Betting Tips: Best and Worst Teams at the All-Star Break

It doesn’t take much time to find the MLB Standings at the All-Star Break – but MLB bettors don’t necessarily care about win/loss records, they want to know which teams are making or losing money at the online sportsbooks.

Similar win/loss records doesn’t necessarily translate to similar results in terms of units won or lost. Case in point, Detroit has a 44-44 record while Cleveland is two games back in the standings at 42-26. Those records seem close in the standings, but in terms of money lost it’s a different story.

The Tigers are down 2.2 units at the midway point of the season, meaning if $100 was wagered on every Tigers game this season they would show a loss of $220. Cleveland is down 14.40 units, with the Indians showing a loss of $1,440 in the same scenario.

The four best teams in terms of profit come from just two divisions. St. Louis tops the majors with +18.60 units of profit. The AL Central’s Royals and Twins are next with +17.45 and +16.50, then Pittsburgh rounds out the top four with +10.80.

Obviously, with the online sportsbooks taking roughly ten cents of juice on every game, there will be more loss than profit when we add up every team in the league. Also, teams that tend to show high profits are not teams that you should look to back in the later months, as those teams tend to have much higher lines.

Another key point to remember is that winning doesn’t mean profit in terms of MLB betting. Only three teams have more victories than the LA Dodgers, but because of the high prices they command with two legit aces on the team, the Dodgers are a money-burning -8.45 units so far.

However, that’s nothing compared to Philadelphia, who is at the bottom of the league not just in terms of wins and losses, but they are also -23.95 units with little hope in sight.
